The Omen 666

Finally I had the time to watch the remake of this classic horror series. I could still remember when they had an omnibus of the Omens series, and I didn’t have a peaceful nights sleep for about two weeks after. Actually, I was preparing myself mentally to watch the remake, in case of the old fear crops up again.

The remake was sort of faithful to the original, except for the fact that its setup in the current time. Hence no twist to the plots or anything, you know whats lurking around the corner and also know the ending. All in all it’s a bit tame, comparing to the gory horror flicks that abound today. I always like the psychological horror, the haunting background music, knowing that the ~evil~ being is present but not really presenting itself to the viewers instead of the in your face, blood oozing, maggots aplenty gory face with lots of shrieking screams galore.

Watching The Omen Remake made me think that this was the movie that invokes the ultimate fear in me then, only not so now. But it has a different effect on my 5 year old son, who watched snippets of the movie with me. He had what he called ‘crazy night’ where he didn’t have a good night sleep and always insist on somebody to be by his side all night even though he didn’t watch the horror parts. I guess as you aged, you could block some of the fear and actually not registering it in your mind whereas kids would absorb everything.

One thing for sure, I WOULD NOT WATCH IT ALONE AT NIGHT.....scarypants....
