Visit Malaysia Year - Kuala Selangor

In view of Visit Malaysia Year 2007, we have decided to have an adventure domestically and get to know our country better. Once a month, we would go to Kuala Selangor to get our supply of seafood as it's fresher than what we could get locally. Even though it is quite a distance away but the freshness negates the costs incurred as the fishes would keep longer even when frozen.

My youngest sister is also looking for someone to sent her back to 'Alam Baru', hence we decided to make a day trip out of it. Arrived in K Selangor around lunchtime and had lunch in town. During lunch, noticed that there's a tram that goes up Bukit Melewati and decided to 'do the tourist' thing.

The fare is RM 2 for adults and RM 1 for children. The other half was not keen on the idea but managed to 'pujuk' her along. The tram journey starts at the gate of Bukit Melawati and it's about 10 mins ride before reaching the designated stop. From the top, we could see the view of Kuala Selangor. Apart from the observation post, the lighthouse and the Perigi Beracun, the attraction on top of the hill are silverleaf monkeys.

These silverleaf monkeys have a shiny silver fur and quite gentle compared to the long tailed macaques. They will wait to be fed and sit still whilst finishing their food. They will not grab food away from visitors unlike the ones in Penang Botanical Garden. A word caution though, these are wild animals altough familiar with human interaction but could be erratic at times.

After about 20 mins, the tram appears and decided to get down from the top. The journey down was really an eye opener. Initially we thought that the driver was taking sides for the sharp and narrow bends, only to notice that he's attacking the curves agrresively. It was like a rollercoaster ride downhill, with a dose of round-a-bout turns, zigzaging and speed all rolled into one. He did a 2 round-about turns near the Makam Diraja and 3 round-about turns in front of the Nature's Park entrance, much to the delight of the little ones ( the adults are seen to be holding their stomach content down ). Honestly, the ride should be labelled the Crazy Tram Ride with the Teriyaki Boys soundtrack blasting in the background ( I wonder if you know,How they live in Tokyo,If you see me then you mean it,Then you know you have to go.Fast and furious! (Kitaa!) (Drift, Drift, Drift)Fast and furious! (Kitaa!) (Drift, Drift, Drift)

Some vintage Honda Cubchai

Would recommend trying out the tram ride. (It could be that the pakcik is a little tipsy from driving up & down the whole day and might not be a permanent feature of the ride)
