Oh,oh, aku keracunan.... DSLR

It goes to show the power of 'racun' from your so called friends, I've finally taken the plunge for a DSLR after so long. I can still remember my first experience with my dad's camera, a Yashica (couldn't remember the model though). After that we had numerous P&S models, (autofocus with fixed range) which was the rage then.

I bought my first ever camera, a Minolta Dynax 500si as per picture below from somewhere in Sg Wang Plaza. I was back in Malaysia in 1995 for a short break during my undergrad and was taken into the world of photography. So much so that when I went to the US for a short break then I bought another lens (cheaper across the pond), a Sigma UCII 70-210mm.

These two combo serve me well, lasting up to 2002 when the digital camera starts to kick in. This is due the simplicity of snapping and discarding pictures at your whim. Gone are the days when you could only see the image after the film has been developed and processed. Also lugging around a SLR setup was a bit cumbersome, especially with a small baby.

My first compact digicam was the Minolta Dimage xi.

Years gone by, Minolta then became Konica-Minolta, then Sony then I was like...hmmm which camp to join now? Another P&S digicam was acquired, it was a Canon Ixus 55. Another compact digicam to keep the harmony with the other half as most of the time it is going to be in her handbag..

Even then, my interest in DSLR hasn't waned, except that I felt that with the technology advancement, it is better for me to wait until something better comes along. I had my first feel of the DSLR by using my office's Nikon D70s, normally for equipment failure investigation. This has stirred my longing for a DSLR as the quality of images where heads above than even the best P&S models. Also there are limitations of the P&S especially in the overkill flash, which turns out a washed up photos. Even the mrs said when are we getting one?

So after consultations (racun) with friends who has gone through the path of DSLR, I have decided that I will go and join the Canonians, up to a point of being called a traitor by the Nikonians...hehe.. I just look at it this way, I have the best of both worlds but I was swayed by the feel of the Canon more. Now I need to fork out some moolah for the accessories, no photoG worth his salt would put it in his dayly backpack can...racun lagi...

So what did I got? the Canon 450D/Kiss X2/Digital Rebel Xsi (why the aliases for certain markets I have no idea). It will be here by next week as I'm getting it from the Canon motherland itself, thanks to Nash...

Now kena tahan telinga from further keracunan... lenses, flashgun, tri/monopods, filters ... huhu...
