My little sister had her BF family over today for the 'merisik' ceremony. Traditionally, the malay tradition would call for 'merisik' (reconnaissance/scouting), which is to get to know the suitor prior to being engaged. This is also to set the date for the engagement. The engagement then would be followed by the wedding.
